Sydney : Australian fast bowler Brett Lee believes that playing in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) is the best way to diffuse the tensions that marred India’s tour Down Under.
“I think it would be great for world cricket if we can go, play and mix with the Indian players. This will only enhance the way the two teams share the same view,” Lee was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph.
Lee also said IPL would serve as good preparation for the West Indies tour. “It would be pretty tough on the body. To continue playing cricket would be the best thing for us.
“I think any cricket is great preparation for a tour. As long as you’re out there, batting or bowling, and being out in the field.”
Lee said if Australia takes four or five weeks break, it would recreate the issues, which the players normally encounter during the pre-season.
“You get back into a game and your body goes through that stiffness again. There is always that fine line about playing too much cricket or not playing enough cricket,” he said.
Lee also expressed his disappointment over not touring Pakistan. “But safety is our most important consideration right now and Cricket Australia (CA) thought it wasn’t safe enough for us to tour Pakistan.”
He also said that the CA had not yet informed the players about their plans of a one-day series to fill the gap created by the postponement of the Pakistan tour.
“At the end of the day we are contracted to Cricket Australia. We can play the IPL if the board allows us to.”
