Rome : Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema on Friday extended condolences over the demise of Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho of the Chaldean Catholic Clergy in Mosul, Iraq.

Rahho’s body was found on the outskirts of the city last Thursday.
D’Alema firmly condemned the “barbaric violence” against a man dedicated to a spiritual and human mission of great worth. He expressed his deep sympathy and solidarity with the Catholic Church over “grave episode of brutal intolerance”, a statement by the Italian Foreign Ministry said.

The Minister also reiterated that Italy remains committed at the side of the Iraqi people in fostering the democratic consolidation of their country and isolating the extremist factions and terrorist groups, who “sadly” continue to operate there with inhuman savagery.

Archbishop Rahho was kidnapped by gunmen on February 29th.
