Washington : Pakistan’s new government should pick up “the thread from where President Pervez Musharraf left” and continue the peace process with India, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said.
“We are hoping to renew composite dialogue with Pakistan,” he told a press conference here Tuesday at the end of a two-day visit to US.
“I myself have expressed my desire to visit Pakistan as soon as the new government is in place and we are waiting for that.
“In any system of government, there may be change of political executive, but major policies continue unless somebody wants to have a disruption in that,” Mukherjee said, when asked how New Delhi saw peace prospects under a weakened Musharraf after the installation of the new civilian government.
“I hope the new government would pick up the thread from where President Musharraf left and will continue the exercise,” he said.
