UNDP Holds Sixth World Anti-Poverty Forum

United Nations : More than 1,000 delegates from 100 countries are participating in the Sixth Forum of the World City Alliance against Poverty, an initiative sponsored by the United Nations Development Program.

According to the organizers, this meeting’s objective is to involve municipalities in implementing local action plans to boost development and struggle against poverty in a context of social democracy.

The participants will also analyze the best way to intensify efforts to reach the Millennium’s Development Objectives, which include reduction of half the hunger and abject poverty in the world by 2015.

During their experience exchange, representatives of municipal governments have spoke about establishing alliances among cities and other key actors, regarding economic growth, according to reports of that forum.

The meeting will conclude on Friday and its participants are expected to approve a series of route maps with concrete goals to progress in achieving the Millennium’s Objectives.
