Sunilam, the party leader in the Madhya Pradesh assembly, Sunday said he would write to assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani for termination of Bundela’s membership as he had violated the party’s whip.

The Samajwadi Party has eight lawmakers in the Madhya Pradesh assembly and the party issued a whip to vote in favour of the Congress supported independent candidate Vivek Tankha.

Sunilam, however, refused to comment whether issuing a whip for the Rajya Sabha polls was correct.

Two days before the elections Friday, a Bhopal resident petitioned the Election Commission of India on whips issued by political parties in elections to the Rajya Sabha (Upper House), saying that they were unlawful.

“The issue of whip with regard to elections to Rajya Sabha amounts to offence of undue influence within the meaning of section 171C of Indian Penal Code,” said the petitioner Arun Dixit.
