Kuwaiti PM affirms depth of ties with Riyadh on occasion of Amir’s visit

Riyadh : Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has expressed satisfaction at level of the solid ties binding his country with Saudi Arabia and praised Riyadh’s major role in bolstering Arab and Islamic solidarity.

Sheikh Nasser, in remarks published by the local daily newspaper “Al-Jazirah” on Saturday, said Kuwait and Saudi Arabia believe that Gulf countries are bound with common objectives and destiny. They have also sought to boost Arab and Gulf action and exerted enormous efforts for deepening cooperation among states of the region.

The interview was held on the occasion of the visit to the kingdom by the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, during which he will hold talks with King Abdullah on various issues of common concern, namely means of settling inter-Arab disagreements and bolstering Arab ranks.

“The Kuwaiti-Saudi relations are strong and solid and we appreciate the great role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for supporting Arab and Islamic solidarity and serving the causes of our Arab and Islamic nations,” he said.

Kuwait and Saudi Arabia believe in the unity of the higher national objectives and destiny of the Gulf countries, as well as bolstering common Arab and Gulf action. The two countries have exerted enormous efforts for bolstering the bonds of cooperation among states of the region for sake of regional stability, Sheikh Nasser noted in the interview with the Saudi daily newspaper.

The Premier spoke extensively about the parliamentary elections, due in Kuwait on May 17, saying in part that the government and the relevant authorities have taken all necessary measures to ensure that the polls be held in a “transparent and objective atmosphere to portray the civil features and democratic system of the country.” He called on the nominees and candidates to abide by the standing laws and regulations to ensure that they practice their political rights freely in a patriotic and responsible atmosphere.

Sheikh Nasser re-affirmed his utter rejection of holding primary polls on tribal, sectarian or factional basis, for such polls undermine the national unity.

The brotherly ties binding the families of Kuwait are stronger than a disagreement and the space of freedoms enjoyed by the Kuwaiti citizen is very and undeniably vast, Sheikh Nasser said.

The elections in Kuwait will be held, for the first time, on the basis of five constituencies, instead of 25 according to the previous system.

He branded as mere rumours reports about the existence of Hezbollah in Kuwait.

On the Palestinian question, the Kuwaiti Premier re-affirmed his country’s support for the Palestinians’ aspiration to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and their struggle in the face of the repressive practices by the occupation forces.
