Kuala Lumpur : Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will discuss with his deputy Najib Tun Razakon the transition of power to the latter, Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama reported Saturday.

Badawi made this remark at a closed-door meeting with the Johorliaison body of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) in Johor Baharu, capital of Malaysia’s southern state of Johor on Friday night, Bernama quoted UMNO vice-president Muhyiddin Yassin as saying.

The details of the transition were not mentioned, including when Badawi would transfer his post of prime minister to Najib who is Malaysia’s current deputy prime minister and also an UMNO deputy president, said Muhyiddin.

The details would be discussed between Badawi and Najib, he added.

Muhyiddin said that Badawi, who is also UMNO president, had previously stated openly that Najib would succeed him as the prime minister of the country, according to Bernama.

Badawi explained issues that were raised concerning the last general election which took place on March 8 this year, Muhyiddin said.

Malaysia’s ruling coalition National Front won the general election, but lost the two-thirds majority in the parliament.

It also lost a simple majority in the legislative assemblies in five states, including Penang, Perak and Selangor.
