Successful Elections in Nepal

Katmandu : Despite isolated incidents of violence politicians in Nepal extolled constituent elections on Thursday, while followers of parties express joy when knowing elections first results.

The leader of PCN-M (Communist Party of Nepal-Maoista) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda (Formidable), described elections as historical and extolled the peoples for their patience and courage.

PCN-M freed an insurgent fight during 10 years for abolishing absolute monarchy and establishing a democratic federal republic until 2006, when it signed a truce and went to political life by agreement with the seven main parties of this state of the Himalayas.

On December, it forced Parliament to decree the democratic federal republic, awaiting his endorsement by the Constituent Assembly that will end elections on Thursday.

Despite a tense atmosphere generated by pre-electoral violence, sabotages threats from small armed groups and previous confrontations among bands of rival parties, the 60 percent of almost the 18 million attended polls.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala congratulated the peoples for the successful celebration of elections.

Meantime, Party of the Congress of Nepal Vice President Prakash Man Singh was first elect-candidate to Constituent Assembly, after announcing this Friday first results of elections.

After his triumph was disclosed, thousands of followers of that party went to the streets to celebrate it.

Some 240, out of the 601 seats for the Constituent Assembly, will be elected by direct vote, meantime 335 will be chosen by proportional representation, the resting 26 will be nominated by Prime minister.
