Provincial Governor Ghulam Dastagir Azad told journalists that the engineers were busy making a bridge on the main highway, when a suicide car bomber exploded his vehicle close to them.

However, police officials in the province said the vehicle of the Indian road workers were struck by a roadside bomb. Eight more people, all of them Afghans, were wounded in the explosion.

Earlier, eight civilians were killed in the province of Kandahar when a suicide bomber missed a NATO convoy there.
