Jammu/Srinagar : The ghost of Kashmir Sex Scandal, which came alive again after shocking revelations were made by a Congress MP, has created a storm in political corridors in Jammu and Kashmir.
While the MP has been summoned by the Congress high command to New Delhi and chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad refused to comment on the issue, one of the `named’ Congress leader and Speaker Legislative Assembly Tara Chand has gone defensive accusing the former of attempting to tarnish his image.
Well informed sources revealed that the Congress Member Parliament (MP) Madan Lal Sharma has been summoned by All India Congress Committee to New Delhi to explain his conduct.
“Party High Command has taken serious note of the statement by MP especially for dragging names of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in the controversy”, a senior Congress leader told News Agency of Kashmir, on the condition of anonymity.
Sharma on Sunday has alleged that Speaker LA Tara Chand and former PCC chief Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed were knee deep involved in Kashmir sex scandal but were saved by Sonia Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad to save the party’s image in public.
Sources maintained that Sharma has been asked to explain his conduct before the disciplinary committee of the party at New Delhi. “If the media reports about his speech are proved the Congress MP may face action in near future”, sources told NAK.
In the meanwhile, chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad tried to remain away from the new controversy and termed the matter as `Fazool’ (insignificant). “Hamarai Pas Aj In Sabh Fazool Batoon Kay Liye Waqt Nahin Hai” (I don’t have time for such insignificant things today), Azad said, when his comment was sought about the statement by his party MP, during a media briefing at Srinagar today.
Speaker Tara Chand on the other hand termed the allegations as baseless and attempt to tarnish his image in public. “People know my status and conduct and such attempts are politically motivated only to harm my image”, the speaker told News Agency of Kashmir.
He said that he would take up the matter with AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minster Ghulam Nabi Azad. “I know I am clean”, he said adding, “The investigation of scandal was being monitored by High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and there is no chance of any accused getting scout free”.
The matter, which is evidently going to snowfall in a major controversy within the Congress ahead of next assembly election, has given some work for the opposition parties. Though National Conference was yet to respond, activists of Bhartiya Janta Party today hold number of protest demonstrations in Jammu and its surroundings against Congress leaders and even burnt the effigy of Sonia Gandhi.
