Minsk : A fledgling ring of ten spy agents led by an official of the US Embassy in Minsk has been dismantled, a source of the Belarus Security Committee (KGB) said.
The 10 individuals, of Belarrussian nationality, worked under the orders of Kurt Finlay, a Security Attache of the US Embassy, said a spokesman for the KGB, Valeri Nadtochaiev, in a TV appearance addressed to the whole country.
The competent bodies’ timely intervention prevented the group from becoming a spy ring, said Nadtochaiev.
The US diplomat was withdrawn from Minsk after the case was made public, Nadtochaiev concluded.
For his part, Belarrussian Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Gaisenok said that a full, unconditional lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Minsk by the US is the only way for a dialogue between the parties.
