United Nations : UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is deeply concerned on Tuesday by the loss of life and serious damage caused by severe storms and flooding in parts of India and Pakistan.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ban commended the prompt and effective response to this disaster in both countries, and reaffirmed the UN readiness to support national and local efforts to provide emergency assistance to the survivors.
He also extended his condolences to the victims and their families, as well as the governments of both countries.
Pakistan's largest city of Karachi was lashed by torrential rains and thunderstorms in recent days, with at least 228 people dying Saturday in the storm.
Rains and flooding also killed 38 people over the weekend in neighboring India, raising the death toll there to 129 since the monsoon season set in four weeks ago, according to official reports.
