United Nations : UN agencies are ready to give aid to Myanmar victims of the hurricane Nargis, which experts think could go beyond hundreds of thousands of people.
Rashid Khalikov, director in New York of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance said that unfortunately the number of needy people cannot be specified but it may be over hundreds of thousands.
The representative of UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) announced that the support is ready but waiting for Yangon authorities” cooperation to speed up supply delivery of vital emergency.
This is a vital moment for the victims, added Khalikov, who pleaded the international community to back current efforts.
Meanwhile, the UN representation in Myanmar is evaluating the situation to launch an international call by the end of this week.
