Protests in Agra over boy’s death in shootout

Agra : People in Agra attacked public buses and blocked roads Friday, protesting the death of a boy who was caught in a crossfire between the police and criminals, the police said.

Sagar Jain received bullet injuries during a shootout between a police team and gangsters who attempted to loot a jewellery shop in Madhavnagar locality. Sagar, who was standing near the shop, was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries in the night.

People immediately started demanding compensation from the police and their protests turned violent in the morning when they destroyed the window panes of several transport buses, a police official said.

“The situation was brought under control when the district magistrate granted a compensation of Rs.20,000 to the victim’s family,” Agra Senior Superintendent of Police Mohit Agarwal told IANS.

Despite the shotout, the gangsters who tried tyo loot the jewellery shop managed to escape, and efforts are now on to trace and nab them, he added.
