Doha : The Qatari prime minister announced that the Lebanese leaders agreed on renouncing violence and pledged to refrain from using guns in future squabbles.
As a result of the deal, Lebanon might witness relaxation of nationwide tension, to be manifested with dismantling a camp of protest, erected by the opppoition in downtown Beirut in December 2006.
The lebanese lawmakers are due to hold a session to elect the consensus candidate for the presidential post, General Michel Suleiman, to fill the top post that has been empty since last November. The latter would consult parliament on choosing a prime minister, who would hold consultations with the parliament on the line-up of the cabinet.
