Beirut : General Michel Suleiman, Lebanon’s Army chief has called for national unity after political agreement sponsored by the Arab League and the Qatari leadership in Doha, Qatar.
“I can’t save the country alone. This mission requires the efforts of all.” Suleiman said.
Parliament is poised to confirm Suleiman as head of state, a job that has been vacant since November.
A dispute between the US-backed ruling coalition and the Hezbollah-led opposition was resolved in a deal struck in Qatar this week.
The agreement now paves the way for the formation of a new government. Suleiman has told reporters: “Security is not achieved with muscles, but joint political will.”
