Beijing : Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has hailed the election of army commander Michel Suleiman as the Lebanese president.
He was addressing the Lebanese parliamentary session in which Suleiman was elected as president of Lebanon Sunday.
He congratulated Suleiman on being chosen as a leader in the “most critical and serious stage in Lebanon’s history.”
Al Thani added that the Arab world could not stand any more disputes, stressing the importance of safeguarding the destiny of nations.
Referring to the Doha Accord, he said Qatar had done nothing but only paved the way for free fruitful dialogue among all the Lebanese political rivals.
The Arabs have managed to tide over the Lebanese standoff through dialogue, he added.
