Chinese Officisl Visits Cuban Meds

Chengdu, China : Jia Qinglin, member of the Permanent Committee of the Chinese Communist Party political bureau, visited the Cuban medical brigade to thank their cooperation in facing the aftermath of the recent earthquake.

Jia, President of the Chinese People Political Consultative Conference, top state body of aides, went to Popular Hospital No.1 in Chengdu, where he said he already knew them because he had seen them on TV and other media.

In speaking to the 35-strong brigade leadership, Jia Qinglin thanked the gesture to Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro whom he met on a visit to Cuba.

Brigade chief, Doctor Jose Rodriguez Carvajal, called it an honor to help China and its people recover and work with Chinese colleagues and voiced the will to stay in Chengdu as long as necessary.

So far they have seen 638 evacuees hit mostly by collapsing walls, ceilings and flying rocks, so orthopaedics and traumatology are in the greatest demand.
