Canada Appoints New Army Chief

Ottawa : Canada appointed Lieutenant General Walter Natynczyk to replace General Rick Hillier as Army Chief of Staff.

Defense Minister Peter MacKay lauded Natynczyk’s work as deputy chief of staff for financial operations.

For his part, the new Chief of staff thanked the confidence and announced as first task visiting the troops in Afghanistan.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Natynczyk began his military career in the US, and was Third Corp general vice commander in Fort Hood, Texas.

He joined the Canadian Army in 1975 and led Canadian forces deployed in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, East Timor and Eritrea.
