Beijing : More countries and overseas Chinese have offered aid or raised money through charity for victims in the devastating May 12 earthquake that hit southwest China.
A Japanese delegation of the ruling party parliamentarians flew Sunday into China’s Sichuan province to deliver relief supplies.
The 31-tonne relief supplies, including 300 tents, have been collected with the support from various social sectors in Japan, said Toshihiro Nikai, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP)’s general council, at the Haneda airport before his departure.
The chief mission of his delegation is to send the relief supplies as well as to convey the sympathy and heart-felt support from the Japanese people, said Nikai, who headed a delegation of 15 parliamentarians.
A charity concert was held Saturday night in the German port city of Hamburg to convey the best wishes of overseas Chinese and the German people.
The German-Chinese Society for Medicine, one of the sponsors, said the association will make efforts to collect necessary medical supplies for the affected areas.
In Los Angeles, more than 200 paintings, calligraphies and photographs were collected for auction Saturday at a sale of work organized by Ding Shaoguang, a famous American Chinese painter.
According to organizers, the sale is expected to raise thousands of dollars and the money will be sent to the Red Cross Society of China by the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles.
