Caretaker Govt working to create suitable atmosphere for Bangladesh election

Dhaka : Adviser for Law and Information Mainul Hosein Wednesday said the present caretaker government is working for creating a suitable atmosphere for holding the general elections in the country.

He said this while newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zheng Qingdian called on him at his office here, said an official handout.

During the meeting, they discussed various matters of bilateral interests, present situation in Bangladesh, reforms activities and other issues.

The adviser said the government has taken necessary measures to maintain law and order for smooth economic activities.

The political parties are working for their reconstitution and reforms, he said adding that the government is not dictating them for making any reforms.

The Election Commission (EC) is preparing a voter list with photographs and election laws are being amended for holding a free and fair general election, Barrister Mainul said.

The present government is working for establishing real democracy in the country, he said adding that the general elections will be held before the end of the year 2008.

Terming the friendship between Bangladesh and China as historic and very warm, the Chinese envoy said there are effective relations between the two countries in various fields, including economy, culture and information.

Mentioning exchange of information as a vital field in bilateral relations between Dhaka and Beijing, he said there is a very warm relation between the two countries in this regard. He hoped that exchange and communication between journalists and mass media representatives between the two countries would extend further.

The Chinese envoy expressed the interest of his government in welcoming any move of Bangladesh news agencies in setting up their permanent offices and appointing correspondents in China.

The adviser assured the Chinese envoy of providing all supports in this regard.
