Tikrit (Iraq) : At least 20 people were killed and 40 others injured Saturday when a bomb explosion ripped through a popular market in a village in Salahudin province of northern Iraq, a police source said.
The bomb was placed in a truck at the outdoor market in the Shiite Kurdish village of Amerli, 90 km east of Tikrit, he said.
"Our latest report said that up to 20 people were killed and 40 others wounded in the attack," the police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
But he added that the death toll might rise as many nearby buildings collapsed in the explosion.
