Officials of Bangladesh's communications and foreign ministries told New Age daily that the train service would not begin before mid-August.

Both the sides had earlier agreed to launch the train service by July 30.

They have decided to go for direct trial runs.

The first trial run from Kolkata is scheduled to take place Sunday. From Dhaka, it would be held July 19 and 22, Bangladesh Additional Communications Secretary A.T.M. Ismail said.

Each of the trains will have four to five compartments to carry 250 passengers.

The fare for one-way travel of a distance of 538 km will be $8 by deluxe chair (Shobhan), $12 by air-conditioned (Snigdha) and $20 by air-conditioned berth.
