New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Tuesday sought an explanation from the central government and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) over alleged favouritism shown to the daughter of a senior doctor.
The favoured candidate whose selection sparked the petition was reported to be the daughter of Sunita Mittal, head of the gynaecology department at the institute.
Justice Siddharth Mridul issued the notice to the AIIMS and Mittal on a petition alleging that undue favour was shown to her daughter. It was filed by a few AIIMS doctors who could not make it to the merit list.
The petitioners contended that Mittal had neither filed a declaration stating that her daughter was appearing in the exam nor had she abstained from the selection process.
It was she who framed questions for the examination in which her daughter, already a doctor at the institute, appeared and got selected as a senior resident doctor.
Although the court declined to quash the selection process, it said that all the selected candidates would be subject to the outcome of the case. The court adjourned the matter for Oct 15.
A total of 91 candidates appeared in the examination July 25. Six of them, including Mittal’s daughter, were selected.
