Ahmedabad : Three people have been arrested in Bharuch for renting a house to SIMI activist Sajid Mansuri, who allegedly played a key role in the Jul 26 Ahmedabad serial bombings, police said Monday.
Mansuri had taken the house on rent from Saeed Hayat at Lukman society in Bharuch. Hayat had the power of attorney over the house that belonged to a London-based NRI.
Hayat, as caretaker of the house, rented it to Mansuri on the recommendation of Yusuf Patel and Maqbul Patel. Hayat, Yusuf and Maqbul were arrested Sunday night.
“They violated orders issued by the district collector and failed to inform the police about this development,” said Bharuch Crime Branch Inspector Agarwal told IANS Monday.
Mansuri is currently being held by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch after being arrested on Aug 9 from the Lukman society house.
However, Joint Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, Ashish Bhatia, who heads the investigations in the serial blasts case, had denied having detained Mansuri. Even the Bharuch District Superintendent of Police Subash Trivedi had denied picking up anyone by the name of Sajid or Mansuri.
The police are zeroing in on Mansuri’s activities during his stay in the city. He is said to have provided the logistics and fine-tuned the operation for the serial blasts in Ahmedabad on July 26 that claimed 57 lives.
