Jammu : People in large number came on roads in Gool area of
district Udhampur in protest against the alleged rape of a twenty-two
year old woman by two Special Police Officers, who were caught and
handed over to police by the local people.

Reports said that two SPOs entered into the house of Mir Qasim, late
last night, and caught hold of his wife, who was reportedly alone in
the house. The cops, who were also allegedly carrying their official
weapons, sexually assaulted the woman, who succeeded in raising an alarm.

Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that hearing cries of the woman,
villager rushed to the house and caught hold of the two cops. Police
was called on the spot and the duo was handed over to the police, added
the sources.

Identified as Bansi Lal and Bhim Singh, the two cops were posted with police station Gool, sources said.

People assembled outside local Mosque after Friday prayers and
staged a protest demonstration. Shouting slogans against the government
and police, the protestors were demanding stern action against the
accused.

However, the protestors were pacified by the senior police officers
who assured the villagers that the SPOs have been lodged behind bars
and a case has been registered against them.
