The ministry signed the contract with Shanghai Chinese Company to build the thermo station, located in the Wasit province, south of Baghdad, with a production capacity of 1320 MW, an official source at the ministry said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The station is projected to be built in four years, the source said, noting that equipment would be brought in after opening a credit and marking the site for the project.

Shanghai Company signed the contract in 1998 but could not put it in effect because of the troubled situation in Iraq.
