Kuala Lumpur : There is chance for a peace deal between Israel and Palestine in their first negotiations in nearly seven years set to begin tomorrow (Wednesday), Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Tuesday.
This time, the blessings and support from the international community for the peace talks were also far better, he said.
“There is also support from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (US, Britain, China, France and Russia) and the Quartet (US, Russia, United Nations and Europena Union).
“And as such, all these should become a motivating factor for the two sides to strike a deal for a final solution for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and solutions to other related problems.
“The chance is there but I am not totally optimistic, but I think if they (Israel and Palestine) take the opportunity that has been started in Annapolis, then we will see (positive breakthroughs),” he said when asked to comment on how optimistic is Malaysia that a breakthrough can be achieved in the peace talks.
