Balotra (Rajasthan) : A five-day-old infant who was separated from her mother after the decision of a community panchayat (executive) in Rajasthan is back with her parents after the intervention of the district officials.
The panchayat of Pachpadra village, about 500 km from the state capital Jaipur, Thursday expelled Chagna Ram from the community to punish him for harbouring a murderer and asked him to stay away from his wife, who is at her parents’ house.
As part of the decision Chagna Ram was asked to take care of his three children, one of whom just five days old, single-handedly.
After the media reported the incident, senior district administration officials directed the local police to investigate the matter.
Chagna Ram, 27, was then allowed to bring back his wife from her parents’ home Friday evening.
“Police have registered a case against members of the panchayat. The matter is being investigated,” said a police official.
Chagna Ram is now a much relieved and happy man. “I had approached the officials for help earlier, but no assistance came my way. I am happy that justice has finally been done,” he said.
