Kottayam (Kerala) : Robin Sarah Paul, a 26-year-old nurse who had moved from India to Australia a year ago, was knocked down by a speeding car and died on her birthday in Melbourne Wednesday.

The accident occurred when the car – reportedly moving in the wrong lane – hit Paul at Elizabeth Street, Thiruvallam Bhasi, editor of an Indian magazine, told IANS over phone from Melbourne.

“Three nurses, all from Kerala, were walking down the street when the car knocked them down. Paul was killed in the accident while the other two escaped,” Bhasi said.

“Incidentally this tragic accident occurred on the 26th birthday of Paul,” he added.

The young nurse was working at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

She hails from Vadavathoor near Kottayam.

Friends and colleagues of the victim – with help from the Indian consulate general in Melbourne – are now making arrangements to send her body back to Kerala.
