Srinagar :Â Security forces claimed to have gunned down three militants in a joint operation in Ganderbal district of North Kashmir, late on Wednesday night.
The fierce encounter lasted for more than twelve hours in which the hideout of the militants' was completely destroyed, reports reaching here said.
Superintendent of Police Ganderbal Razak Khan told News Agency of Kashmir that based on a specific information about presence of militants in the house of one Ghulam Nabi Bhat at Pattipora Saloor, Ganderbal Police, 5 RR and CRPF launched a joint operation late on
Wednesday afternoon.
The troops, he said, zeroed in onto the hideout of militants leading to a fierce gun battle. During the gunfight that continued till late night, troops gunned down all the three militants hiding in the house.
The slain militants have been identified as Umar Rashid Tantray of Saloora and Javeed Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Haider Khan of Bada Wason Ganderbal. Three AK rifles and ten Magazines were recovered from the site of the encounter.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman said that police arrested an active militant of Hizbul Mujahideen, operating in Dooru and Vessu areas of South Kashmir.
Identified as Gulzar Ahmad Wagay alias Adil son of Sonaullah Wagay of Driyen Qazigund was apprehended by joint ambush party of Police Kulgam, 5lh BN CRPF and 49-RR, the spokesman said adding two Chinese Hand grenade, forty two AK rounds, two Detonators were recovered from his possession.
