NATO forces reportedly fired several missiles late Friday at two villages, leaving at least 33 people dead and more than 70 wounded in North and South Waziristan.

Pikhwar Khan, 70, a resident of the mountainous Shawal region in South Waziristan, killed himself when he saw the bodies of nine members of his family, including three women and four children, the Dawn newspaper said.

Only one minor in Khan's family survived the bombing by helicopter gunships and other aircraft.

"First, light-emitting balls were fired which lit up the area. Then machinegun rounds and artillery shells were fired from planes and helicopters, which shook the entire area," a witness in the Shawal region told the newspaper.

NATO-led forces admitted Sunday that during an anti-insurgent operation near the shared border, their forces had mistakenly tracked rebels into Pakistani territory and killed up to 10 civilians.
