Chennai : The Tamil Nadu police have charged Congress legislator K. Vishnuprasad, son of state Congress president M. Krishnasamy, with attack on the state Youth Congress chief Mayura S. Jayakumar in his office Sunday.
Vishnuprasad, who is also the brother-in-law of union minister Anbumani Ramadoss, has been named as the prime accused by Jayakumar in his complaint to the police. As many as 17 other people, including another Youth Congress leader, Saidai Williams, have been named by Jayakumar in his police complaint.
Williams and another person have been arrested.
Meanwhile, Vishnuprasad has moved to court, seeking anticipatory bail, and has denied his involvement in the attack.
Four special police teams have been formed to catch the assailants, who barged into Jayakumar’s room in Congress headquarters Sathyamurthi Bhavan Sunday and attacked him and two others.
The police said factional fight between Jayakumar, a loyalist of union minister G.K. Vasan, and supporters of Vishnuprasad led to the incident.
