Expansion of ties with Arab states a priority – Dy FM

Damascus : Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and Africa Affairs Mohammad-Reza Baqeri said here Thursday that Iran’s foreign policy is based on expansion of relations with Arab countries.

Damascus-based daily Al-Watan quoted Baqeri as saying that Iranian high-ranking officials have had constant negotiations with their Arab counterparts, adding that Tehran is hub of visits by Arab leaders and officials.

The deputy minister further noted that Iran and Syria enjoy particular ties, and that officials of the two brotherly countries make all efforts to strengthen relations in different fields.

Baqeri, who was Iranian ambassador to Syria once, condemned air aggression by the Zionist regime on the Syrian territory.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the International Qods Day is the symbol of solidarity among Muslims and Arabs to the lofty goals of Palestinians.

He noted that announcing the last Friday of holy fasting month of Ramadan as the Qods Day by the late Imam Khomeini is a starting point on the issue of Palestinian oppressed nation.

He also called on the Islamic nations to mobilize in order to confront plots hatched by the international arrogance and support resistance for liberation of Beit-ul-Muqaddas.
