Tehran : Iran’s Oil Deputy Minister Ali Kordan said here Monday his country is fostering a gas producers organization, similar to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, to reduce production costs and prices to consumers.
Kordan told the press his government supports the creation of an organization that equally guarantees the interests of consumers and producers.
His statements refuted the arguments of the US government and the European Union that a similar institution to OPEC might put the world’s energy security in danger and would cause more manipulation of oil prices.
Kordan said the trade of gas has grown so much, that it will be necessary to create an organization to establish policies for production and prices.
The creation of this institution will help to reduce production costs and protect the consumers´ rights, he concluded.
