Amarnath land row costs Rs 5,790 crore to Jammu

Jammu (J&K): The ongoing agitation over Amarnath land transfer row has cost whopping Rs 5,790 crore losses to Jammu region during the last 40 days.

This was disclosed by Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Ram Sahai while talking to media persons at the sidelines of a press conference of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti at Geeta Bhawan this afternoon.

Sahai disclosed that the industrial and tourism sectors are the worst affected due to prevailing unrest in the region. “The tourism sector has suffered a loss of Rs 1,850 crore while the industrial sector has suffered a loss of Rs 2,500 crore,” informed Sahai, adding that the agricultural sector has suffered a loss of Rs 600 crore, automobile industry has suffered Rs 180 crore loss, shopkeepers Rs 660 crore, transporters suffered Rs 38 crore, bank interests losses Rs 25 crore, passenger tax loss Rs one crore, insurance sector loss Rs 8 crore and token tax Rs 2 crore loss.

“All the traders, transporters and industrialists are ready to bear more losses but the land should be restored back to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB),” he maintained.

He, however, assured that Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil during his meeting with a delegation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday had assured that the government would provide compensation to all the losses being suffered by the people of Jammu region.
