New Delhi: Former MP and renowned Muslim leader Syed Shahabuddin has demanded the Central government to quash the Haj quota allotted to private Haj tour operators and all Hajis from India be sent through the central Haj Committee of India.
In a letter to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Syed Shahabuddin has asked why private Haj operators are being so importance and on which ground the government is allocating them a quota of 60,000 Hajis.
He said the decision is illegal and only benefits some people. He said the government seems to be lessening the burden of Haj subsidy by granting the quota to private tour operators. He reiterated that the Haj subsidy should be ended stage-wise. He also demanded that there should be a global tender for chartered flights for Haj.
