Ulema meets U.P. Governor, demands implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations

Lucknow: All India Sunni Ulema Council presented a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Governor T.V. Rajeswar on 26th February, demanding the implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations in the state.

As the Sachar Committee concluded, massive action needs to be taken to improve economic, educational and social condition of Indian Muslims, the memorandum says. A delegation of the Council that presented the memorandum to the governor also demanded that exploitation of Muslim youths on pretext of terrorism should be stopped.

The delegation was of the view that state Muslims should be provided the facility of reservation on the pattern of Kerala. The government grant should be given to those recognized schools and madrasas that have completed the formalities. The delegation was led by Qazi of Kanpur Maulana Riyaz Ahmad. The governor assured the delegation that he would write to the Union and state governments for necessary action.
