Chandigarh : The Haryana government Saturday announced the decision to paint a yellow strip inscribed “BPL parivar” (below poverty line family) at a conspicuous place on the main gate of each poor household to ensure their identity.

The move follows the recent embarrassment caused to the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government by lists of BPL families in the state in which certain well to do and influential families had got their names included in the BPL list.

A spokesman of the rural development department said the yellow strip would clearly identify the BPL household so that various benefits extended to such families reach the beneficiaries.

The name of a BPL household will be deleted from the list if anyone tampered with the painted strip, he added.
