Pakistan landslide kills three policemen

Islamabad : Heavy snowfall in northern Pakistan has killed three policemen after landslide hit their check post, police said on Tuesday.

Northern parts of Pakistan have been receiving heavy snow and rains, which has caused land sliding and road blocks.

The capital Islamabad and most parts of the country have been receiving rains for few days, making the weather much colder in these days.

At least three security personnel were killed when heavy snow caused landslide and hit their post at Chitral late Monday night.

The building of the police post was totally destroyed after it was hit by the heavy glacier near an under construction tunnel, known as Lowari Top.

The Lowari top has also been closed for all kind of vehicular traffic after the heavy snowfall continuing for the last two days, authorities said.

The Chitral Police taking prompt action rushed to the site and recovered six personnel alive. Condition of one of them was stated to be critical. Those recovered alive told the police that they had fourteen-member staff at the check post.

The rescue operation was again resumed to recover other persons from the debris of the snow covered collapsed building of the post.

The team recovered three dead bodies from beneath the debris. The efforts for recovering other five bodies were continuing.
