Nairobi : A cholera outbreak in common Kenya and Somalia border areas has claimed another 43 lives in the last 15 days, according to reports released by both countries on Sunday.
Abubakar Abdi, Chief of Public Health in Mandera district, Kenya, said that at least 30 people, including six children, died in the said locality.
In Somalia, 13 people have died, according to authorities, with nearly 700 cases reported, including over 250 treated in hospitals.
The Kenyan government banned food imports from Somalia and Ethiopia to prevent a spread of the disease.
The latest reports indicate that at least 70 people have died of hemorrhagic fever in Gedo region, Somalia, near the Kenyan border.
Situation tends to worsen due to draught affecting the area, with water as the main source of infection.
