Kuala Lumpur : Malaysia has the potential to develop Muslim tourism by offering various facilities and infrastructure for the need of Muslim tourists especially the wide variety of halal food and mosques, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) said Wednesday.
Its deputy president, Mohd Khalid Harun said Malaysia could emulate Turkey which was providing facilities and infrastructure for the need of Muslim tourists.
He said to realise this, Matta will organise the first International Conference on Muslim Tourism, Haj and Umrah Packages 2008 (InCoMTHU 08) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on May 22.
“The conference will elaborate the latest updates and challenges in managing Haj and Umrah pilgrimage travel as well as to explore and discuss business opportunities in the development of Muslim tourism, not only within the Muslim world, but also with non-Muslim countries,” he told a press conference here Wednesday.
Mohd Khalid said the speakers would deliver a wide range of topics from research and studies, experiences and visions that would help the Muslim tour operators gain a better insight and erudite knowledge in the subject of Muslim tourism.
He said the day-long conference with the theme “Striving for Excellence and Glory in Muslim Travel and Tourism” was jointly organised by the Pilgrims Fund Board (Tabung Haji), Al Rajhi Bank, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Saudi Arabian Embassy, Syria Tourism Board, Shahidah Travel Singapore and Asosiasi Muslim Penyelenggara Haj & Umrah Republik Indonesia.
