Syria-Israel for Peace Talks

Tel Aviv : Syria and Israel governments announced Wednesday beginning of peace negotiations with mediation of Turkey to put end to the conflict created by Israeli occupation of Golan Heights in 1967.

A release from the office of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert issued in this city and another one from the Syrian Foreign Affairs Ministry issued in Damascus confirmed the information that was earlier circulating in several international and regional media.

Talks will be held on the grounds of Madrid Conference 1991, noted the Israeli communication published in coordination with Syria and Turkey, referred the text.

In addition, Syrian foreign minister Walid Mualem announced that Israel agreed to give back Golan Plateau unconditionally which argument was rejected by a source from Olmert’s Office mentioned by the press.

Israel refused to give the territory back while Damascus government considered delivery of that territory a question of principle without which there would not be peace agreement.
