Ghaziabad : The police Tuesday said they have recovered rubber stamps of government officials and principals of several colleges from two engineering students here who allegedly used to sell fake degree certificates for massive amounts.
The police said fake rubber stamps of senior government officials, principals and management of several colleges were recovered from the possession of Manoj Gupta and Anil Upadhyay, the B. Tech student of Raj Kumar Goel Institute of Technology (RKGIT).
Upadhyay told the police that the two students would attest documents for which they charged money from the people.
They also would procure false scholarship certificates for students, for which they charged massive amounts, according to the police.
However, Gupta pleaded innocence saying his friend would have obtained the support of other members of the gang.
The accused were arrested after a former student of the college complained to the police that they were demanding money to hand over to him his passport that was delivered at the institute’s address.
Nitin Dixit said the two accused demanded Rs. 12,000 for the passport.
The police laid a trap and asked Nitin to call the two near the college.
The two were arrested in the morning where they had come to collect the money.
