New Delhi: Expressing concern over pending cases in courts, Congress president Sonia Gandhi Saturday said that the common man should get justice in a speedy and affordable manner.
Addressing a national convention organised here by the party’s Legal and Human Rights Department, Gandhi said that 2.5 crore cases were pending in various levels of the judiciary.
She said proper implementation of the legislation on Gram Nyayalayas (rural courts) would ensure speedy disposal of cases and ensure justice for the common man.
Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily asked the party’s legal and human rights department to create a data bank of lawyers affiliated to the Congress.
Congress legal and human rights department secretary K.C. Mittal said the convention of lawyers was held after 21 years.
He demanded the creation of a Rajiv Gandhi centre for voluntary dispute resolution to regulate domestic and international arbitration and mediation.
