While Tirath dismissed it as a “poll stunt”, NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma urged the Election Commission to take action against Yadav.

“This is a very irresponsible statement, it will only encourage rape,” Tirath told reporters here. “This is totally a wrong thing to say.”

NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma issued a statement saying the remark was against the model code of conduct.

“This is against the model code of conduct, the Election Commission should take action against it,” Sharma said.

“It is an insult to women and will encourage violence against women,” she added.

Mulayam Singh, in an election rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharth Nagar Sunday, said he would ensure government jobs to every rape victim if his party came to power.
