“Someone should really talk about how much a woman’s workload increases during Ramadan,” Mariya says jokingly. A mother of three, she is the principal at a local girls’ school.
During Ramadan, her day gets much longer, starting from before the rest of the family wakes up for Sehri. After Sehri, it isn’t easy to get some much needed sleep either. It won’t be long before it will be time for the day’s chores to begin.
“The saving grace is that it’s time for summer vacations right now,” she sighs, “else only Allah knows how I would have managed my kids and their father.” Her worst nightmare these days: the domestic help going on leave.
