Tension in the valley over scrapping of Article 35 A

TCN News

There is a strong speculation that Article 35 A may be scrapped stripping the Jammu and Kashmir the special status that has been accorded by the constitution of India. The atmosphere has been charged especially after the entry of 10000 paramilitary forces in the valley on the orders of the Home Minister.

Ex- Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has reacted sharply to this move of annulling the article 35 A warning the centre that any such action of meddling with article 370 and 35 A will be like setting a powder keg on fire.

She said, while addressing the gathering in Srinagar, to celebrate the Peoples Democratic Party’s 20th raising day that she and her party are ready to fight to death to protect Article 35 A.

However the national vice president of the BJP and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan who is currently on a visit to Kashmir, said that there are no such plans to scrap the article 335 A as the matter is sub-judice. And the paramilitary forces sent to J & K are part of a routine exercise.

Kashmir based politicians and others have seen this move to counter insurgency and to maintain law and order upon the revocation of Article 35 A. All regional parties in the state such as National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (J&KPM) and others are against the tinkering of Article 35 A and Article 370.
