“I hope I will discuss this role through the talks that will be held with Syrian officials,” Miliband said in a statement to reporters upon arrival in Damascus Monday.

He said he was happy to be visiting Syria, underlining the importance of his meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem held recently in London, and the necessity of dialogue among parties in light of the existence of serious intentions towards regional issues.

On the situation in the occupied Palestinian lands, the British Foreign Secretary described the situation as fragile and requires all sides to assume their responsibilities to enhance stability, adding “this issue will be discussed within talks that will be held during my current visit.”

Assistant Foreign Minister Abdul-Fatah Amoura and the British Ambassador in Damascus received the British Minister at the Damascus International Airport.

Al-Moallem and Miliband held constructive and useful talks on Oct 27 in London, expressing common desire to work for the stability of the Middle East.
