Al-Assad stresses need to upgrade media discourse to face challenges

Damascus : President Bashar al-Assad has underlined the necessity to upgrade Arab media discourse to a level through which it can face political, intellectual and moral challenges in the Arab society and be the best means to re-enhance Arab relations.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Arab Ministers of Information and Communications who participated in a joint meeting of the Arab Information and Communication Ministers Council here Monday.

Al-Assad described this meeting as “an important step at the level of the joint Arab action.”

The meeting dealt with the role of the Arab Information and Communications Ministries to keep pace with the global information revolution and the rapid information, technical and technological development in addition to the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between these ministries and placing a common strategy to cope with information and technological challenges facing all Arabs.

The president also fielded questions which focused on Syria’s vision towards the latest developments on the Arab and international arena, particularly the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, the development of inter-Arab relations, the peace process and the outcome of the US elections.

He confirmed that continuous dialogue among Arab countries at all levels is basic and necessary to meet global conditions and to create new mechanisms and appropriate solutions to the problems facing the Arab societies.

The Arab Information and Communications Ministers, in statements to SANA following the meeting, described their talks as positive and fruitful, adding that they touched upon the current Arab issues and the optimal use of information and communications relating to these issues.
